Operation of the Program

The program functions simply and transparently, following these steps:

1. The Health Ministry of Armenia circulates information about the program to regions of the Armenia, Artsakh and Javakhk. Regional health authorities assign a day for needy patients to gather, and the Armaveni Charitable Foundation sends a team to the region to examine them clinically and radiologically, and to select them for treatment according to medical indications. Preference is given to patients from low-income families.

2. Detailed information about the selected patients is placed on the Armaveni website. This includes clinical and radiological pictures, the goal of the treatment, the presumable duration and cost, which includes all medical expenses as well as subsequent rehabilitation, and the financial income of the patient's family. Contact information is also given.

3. The Foundation actively seeks donor assistance to proceed with treatment. The patient's pictures (including X-ray, if necessary) are emailed to potential sponsors. If an agreement to support the surgery is reached, the patient's family is informed and put in contact with the sponsor. The sponsor may also choose to contact the patient's family directly before making a decision.

4. The sponsor is given Armaveni Charitable Foundation bank account information. United States citizens interested in a tax deduction are guided through the Hi-Am Charitable Foundation (registered in the US), which has a signed agreement with the Armaveni Charitable Foundation and the Yerevan Center of Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction.

5. When the donation is transferred, the patient is invited to the Nairi Medical Center, where the patient undergoes reconstructive surgery after extensive medical and radiological examination. The sponsor is informed of the success of the procedure on the day of the surgery. On a regular basis during treatment, the sponsor is informed of the principal steps of the recovery, including photos of the patient.

6. When the treatment is complete, the sponsor is sent a final picture of the result, as well as pictures of the patient before, during, and after the treatment. As a rule, the sponsor also receives a letter of appreciation from the patient's family.
